About Kim Ahonoukoun

Radiant and alive with movement, The Sun stands as one of Kim Ahonoukoun’s most evocative explorations of light and emotion. In this masterful work, hues of red, yellow, and green converge in capturing not only the visual splendour of sunlight but its deeper, life-affirming essence.

Ahonoukoun, a French–Beninese Canadian artist with studios in London and Florida, is recognised for her profound ability to translate emotion into colour. Her journey into painting began unexpectedly at the age of 35, following a moment of clarity during a guided meditation - an awakening that revealed an innate gift for expressing the unseen rhythms of light and nature. Since then, her rise within the contemporary Impressionist movement has been extraordinary, drawing comparisons to Monet while establishing a distinct voice of her own.

In The Sun, Ahonoukoun channels the Impressionist legacy where layers of brush strokes of warmth and shadow coexist in delicate balance. The reds pulse with life, the yellows shimmer with hope, and the greens breathe renewal, evoking the eternal dialogue between fire and earth. Through her signature three-dimensional technique, each brushstroke seems to expand beyond the surface, creating an almost tangible vibration that draws the viewer closer, as if stepping into the light itself.

The Sun is a celebration of illumination, of courage, and of the quiet power found in stillness and radiance. It encapsulates the essence of Kim Ahonoukoun’s vision to restore wonder to the world through nature’s colour and stillness.

Artist Statement

"My paintings are all about making your soul feel at peace. My work is a contemporary abstract way of approaching an impressionistic vision. I paint a dreamy version of what I have in front of me. I love using powerful brushstrokes combined with vibrant colors as well as a calming and soft color palette.

When a viewer is standing in front of one of my paintings, I really want them to observe & feel every single brushstroke mainly from an up-close perspective. The closer you get, the more you are able to understand my universe."
