London Blues, 2024
Kim Ahonoukoun’s London Blues evokes feelings of calm serenity as the pale water lilies float across the surface. Gazing into the painting is a lesson in meditation as the ripples reflect the light.
About Kim Ahonoukoun
Ever since her focus on impressionist art at the age of 35, following a deeply meditative experience, Kim has created art in homage and continuation of Monet’s legacy. Kim holds up a mirror of emotional reflection within every piece of neo-impressionist art. Her portfolio of water lilies are works of serenity and vulnerability crafted from precise strokes of her brush.
Between her two studios in London and Florida, the French-Beninese Canadian artist has produced collections of waterlilies, abstracts and vases that have captured the contemporary art world. Kim has since been artist-in-residence for the Monet Immersive Experience in Miami and New York City, creating and exhibiting art for wide audiences and collaborating with luxury fashion brands.
London Blues offers a glimpse into Kim’s love for nature painting, where her waterlilies tell the story of her spiritual journey as well as the act of transformation through healing and rebirth. The journey through Kim’s paintings is not always easy. London Blues demonstrates this balance of serenity and vulnerability through its deep blue tones and dreamlike reflections as the symbol of the waterlily drifts across the surface.
Artist Statement
"My paintings are all about making your soul feel at peace. My work is a contemporary abstract way of approaching an impressionistic vision. I paint a dreamy version of what I have in front of me. I love using powerful brushstrokes combined with vibrant colors as well as a calming and soft color palette.
When a viewer is standing in front of one of my paintings, I really want them to observe & feel every single brushstroke mainly from an up-close perspective. The closer you get, the more you are able to understand my universe."
